Every Skin Needs a Different Oil
In natural cosmetic formulation, the choice of carrier oil is crucial for both the feel and effectiveness of the product. Let's explore lesser-known but highly valuable oils beyond Jojoba and Coconut oils.
Safflower Oil
With its high linoleic acid content (70-80%), Safflower Oil is ideal for oily and acne-prone skin. Linoleic acid is an essential fatty acid often deficient in acne-prone skin. Its light texture makes it excellent for face oils and serums. Usage rate: 5-30%
Almond (Sweet) Oil
Primarily oleic acid-based (65-70%) with a balanced fatty acid profile, Almond Oil is suitable for almost all skin types. Its mild emollient effect, gentle scent, and versatility make it a foundational oil in formulations. It is also safely used in baby care. Usage rate: 10-50%
Wheat Germ Oil
One of the richest oils in natural Vitamin E (tocopherol). Its powerful antioxidant properties make it valuable in anti-aging formulations. Due to its thick texture, it is usually mixed with other oils at a rate of 5-10%. Usage rate: 2-10%
Evening Primrose Oil
With its gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) content, Evening Primrose Oil is particularly effective for inflammatory skin conditions such as hormonal acne, eczema, and psoriasis. GLA is converted into anti-inflammatory prostaglandins in the body. Usage rate: 5-15%
Apricot Kernel Oil
With its light texture and quick absorption, Apricot Oil is very similar to Almond Oil but slightly lighter. Its balance of oleic and linoleic acids makes it ideal for normal to combination skin. It is frequently used in massage oils and body lotions. Usage rate: 10-50%
