How to Make Brightening Vitamin C Serum at Home: A Step-by-Step Guide

You can now make your own brightening, illuminating, and anti-aging Vitamin C serum at home! This serum, which you will prepare with db/PURE's pure raw materials, rivals expensive serums on the market.

What Does This Serum Do?

Niacinamide minimizes pores, alpha arbutin brightens dark spots, Vitamin C illuminates, and caffeine reduces under-eye circles. All in one!

Required Ingredients (for ~100ml)

  • Distilled Water — 78%
  • Hyaluronic Acid — 1.5% (alternative: Aqua Phytoplex, Sodium Lactate)
  • Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) — 5%
  • Alpha Arbutin — 1% (alternative: Azelaic Acid 5–10%)
  • Pentylene Glycol — 3% (alternative: Glycerin)
  • Aqua Phytoplex — 3% (alternative: Oat Extract, Beta Glucan)
  • Xanthan Gum — 0.3% (alternative: NATPURE Cellgum Plus)
  • VC-IP (Oil-based Vitamin C) — 3% (in cooling phase)
  • Caffeine — 2% (in cooling phase)
  • Herbal Preservative — 1% (in cooling phase)

Production Process

  1. Xanthan dispersion: Pre-mix xanthan gum with pentylene glycol to prevent clumping.
  2. Prepare the water phase: Heat distilled water to 40°C. Add the xanthan mixture and dissolve. Add niacinamide, alpha arbutin, and aqua phytoplex.
  3. Cool: Cool to below 35°C.
  4. Cooling phase: Add VC-IP, preservative, and caffeine. VC-IP is heat-sensitive; always add it in the cold phase!
  5. pH control: pH should be between 5–6.
  6. Fill into a dark glass dropper bottle (Vitamin C is affected by light).
